The words to Joseph L. Townsend’s ” Nearer my Savior, to Thee” stir my heart, but the standard melody by William Clayton tends to lull me to sleep a little. In arranging this, I tried changing up the meter while keeping Clayton’s melody. I think the result is a song with a lot more energy and vigor: a lot more passion to the plea! I tried to make it a relatively easy song for the singers to sing, so as to be accessible to wider number of humble church choirs, and I hope that singing it will bring extra excitement and enthusiasm to our worship.
